I am in a long term mobile phone contract and want to keep my mobile phone number, what do I need to do?

What coverage is provided by the BTS access point?

How many people can be supported on a single BTS access point

Why must I order my DSL connection from CommsIQ

    - If the mobile has registered to the BTS access point can it receive calls/SMS sent to my regular mobile number

    Are call charges incurred?

Do calls between mobiles within the same BTS access point trombone and incur extra call charges.

What happens when I make a call from inside my private mobile network and leave the area of coverage. Does the call stay up?

What happens if I'm already on a call using my regular Mobile Network Operator and enter an area covered by my private mobile network. Does it stay on Vodafone until I hang up or transfer to the private network?

Are there any phones or networks that have issues or don't work?

How many simultaneous calls from one BTS access point?

There is mention of battery life being extended - why is this?

Is there any impact on voice quality?

Does the PME support PAIRING. The Ability for Desk phone and Mobile phone to share the same extension.ddi number. When DDI is called both devices ring concurrently, which ever device is used to connect the call auto ceases the ringing of the other device

Might be better to ask if hold and transfer is supported Does the PME support DTMF Function. The ability for mobile phone to access feature set of the host PBX via DTMF so that once a call has been answered, the call can be held & transferred around the building from the mobile device whilst the call stays 'on net' on the PBX.

Does the PME have CLI Pass Through. The Ability for the PBX to 'pass through' incoming callers CLI or internal extension as CLI to mobile device. Also the ability to SEND the users DDI number as a CLI when calling via the PBX.

Does the PME support DIAL THROUGH. The ability for mobile device to seamless make calls to other users on the system by dialling their respective extension numbers without the need for any digit insertion prior to the mobile device sending the number.

Does the PME support BREAK OUT. The ability for user to dial 9 and make call via the PBX trunk lines

How does PME coverage compare to DECT?

    Is a PSTN Line required?

What Do You Need To Know?

How many people can be supported on a single BTS access point

7 concurrent voice calls can be made from a single BTS but you can have many more handsets registered to a single BTS.

Why must I order my DSL connection from CommsIQ

To ensure voice quality and a professional service and to prevent disruption to the service we will only support PME installations on our approved DSL lines as listed in the price list.

    - If the mobile has registered to the BTS access point can it receive calls/SMS sent to my regular mobile number

To get mobile calls to your PME extension a 'no network coverage' divert would need to be setup to send calls to your device whilst on the PME system. SMS will not be delivered to your device whilst on the PME but are queued and sent when you rejoin the macro network. SMS between the users on the PMN are provided. Future developments to support external SMS are planned.

    Are call charges incurred?

Calls are free for PMN phone to PMN, there is a charge for PMN to external/desk phone if out of service area

Do calls between mobiles within the same BTS access point trombone and incur extra call charges.

No the voice traffic stays local and doesn't utilse the DSL connection so a call between mobiles on the same BTS access point is a free internal call between extension.

What happens when I make a call from inside my private mobile network and leave the area of coverage. Does the call stay up?

No - when the handset loses coverage from the local BTS access point the call is dropped, the handset will then select your regular Mobile Network Operator and the call will need to be redialled, assuming the handset is running the Netswitch application..

What happens if I'm already on a call using my regular Mobile Network Operator and enter an area covered by my private mobile network. Does it stay on Vodafone until I hang up or transfer to the private network?

The call will remain with the Mobile Network Operator for the duration of the call, when you hang up the handset will then transition onto the private mobile network. Again assuming you are running the Netswitch application on the handset.

Are there any phones or networks that have issues or don't work?

The best user experience is gained on Symbian Series 60 and Windows Mobile 5,6 and 6.1 handsets as the Netswitch client automatically transitions between the private mobile network and the Mobile Network Operator. Other handsets rely on a manual transition from one to the other, Blackberry devices fall into this category and will not be able to send or receive emails whilst on the private mobile network. Development work is still being undertaken in this area and information will change over time.

How many simultaneous calls from one BTS access point?

Each access point will support 7 concurrent voice calls, and multiple BTS access points can be configured to accommodate greater call volume.

There is mention of battery life being extended - why is this?

Battery life is extended because whilst using Low Power GSM the handsets radio is transmitting at 200mW rather than 1W.

Are there any safety/health advantages of using Low Power GSM?

Low power GSM means that the BTS access point is transmitting at 200mW as opposed to 25W or greater from a regular Mobile Network Operators mast and the handset also transmits 200mW rather than 1W, a typical DECT access point will typically transmit at 250mW. So Low Power GSM can be used in areas where regular GSM isn't allowed.

What are the site survey requirements?

All installations require a site survey to determine the number of BTS access points that are required to give both sufficient coverage of the area and sufficient call capacity.

Is there any impact on voice quality?

Voice quality is high as you would expect from any professional solution, the quality within the PME is the equivalent to a mobile network with good coverage and is in many cases an improvement on the voice quality provided by connection to the macro GSM network in building.

Does the PME support PAIRING. The Ability for Desk phone and Mobile phone to share the same extension.ddi number. When DDI is called both devices ring concurrently, which ever device is used to connect the call auto ceases the ringing of the other device

Currently the PME extension cannot be registered on two devices at once, the user registers on the device they are using at any given time, when used with intelligent Number two alternatives can be set

Does the PME support DIAL THROUGH. The ability for mobile device to seamless make calls to other users on the system by dialling their respective extension numbers without the need for any digit insertion prior to the mobile device sending the number.

When calling other internally the user would dial the internal extension number the same as would be dialled from a deskphone, the same goes if a PME user wanted to call another PME user the internal number can be used.

Does the PME support BREAK OUT. The ability for user to dial 9 and make call via the PBX trunk lines

Yes the system can be setup either way if you want your users to actively have to add the 9 to make an external call then that can be done, if you would rather have the platform add the 9 on for your users allowing for them to dial the number from their address book as normal then that can be done too.

How does PME coverage compare to DECT?

A PME BTS access point will typically cover the same area as 3-5 DECT units depending on DECT manufacturer

    Is a PSTN Line required?

A PSTN line into the building is needed for the DSL installation, the DSL installation used for PME must be provided by TT-Office

    How is Installation Handled?

The IP Telephony connection is provided as a hosted service and no installation is required. The hosted service is delivered over DSL or IP wide area connections. Locally, PMN BTS Access Point units are required. Prior to installation, radio planning determines where the PMN Access Point units are needed to provide coverage in the local area and for the number of users being supported. Our Project Team provides on-going support and advice on the required pre-installation works and assist in the installation of the PMN Access Points. The solution is pre-configured with Ethernet connectivity between the PMN Access Point(s) and the local network connection. On-going administration is possible through the web-based administration tools provided and no specialised skills are required.
